Bryan
M. Friedman is a shareholder of the Firm and chairs the Firm's Corporate
and Business Practice Group. Bryan's practice includes general business,
corporate, licensing and intellectual property law.
Born and raised in South Africa, Bryan graduated from the University
of Witwatersrand Law School in 1968 and was admitted to the South
African (Natal Provincial) Bar in 1970. Bryan practiced law in South
Africa from 1970 until 1980, when he moved to California.
Bryan has extensive experience in representing clients, both foreign
and domestic, in the apparel industry, including manufacturers,
distributors, artists and promoters.
As well as practicing law, Bryan has had inside business and management
experience. Other areas of Bryan's practice include formalizing,
implementing and evaluating domestic and international licensing
and trademark programs, advising and assisting start-ups; registering
and enforcing trademarks and copyrights; forming business entities,
including corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships;
negotiating and documenting finance and factor arrangements; negotiating
and documenting strategic business alliances such as joint ventures,
licenses, production and distribution agreements; negotiating and
documenting employment agreements; advising on employment and labor
law compliance issues; counseling and drafting shareholder agreements;
providing financial crisis management and bankruptcy advice; mergers
and acquisitions; and perfecting and enforcing security interests.
Representative clients have included companies manufacturing, marketing
and licensing California lifestyle brands with well recognized trademarks,
including Billabong, Catalina, and Jhane Barnes.
Bryan is a member of the California bar.
